Ocean Harmony 20th Anniversary Concert

Oh What a Night! - Saturday 13th January 2024 - Hanger Farm Arts Centre, Totton.

It wasn’t just the chords that blended so well for Ocean Harmony’s 20th anniversary party.

Months of meticulous planning also came together to produce one of the most successful events in the barbershop chorus’s history.

A sell-out audience was treated to an evening of barbershop through the ages from the Southampton and New Forest-based chorus, which was ably supported by several a cappella quartets and octets.

Ocean Harmony chairman David Wilson declared the event ‘a triumph’, adding: “The chorus collectively and individually were magnificent.

“The audience loved you and appreciated the fantastic entertainment you provided for them. I am so proud of you and it is an absolute privilege to be your chairman.”

Local charity, Mind Solent, New Forest Well-Being Centre, was chosen to benefit from the 20th anniversary event, staged in mid January, which was put together by volunteers from the chorus throughout 2023.

The show, led by Musical Director, John Masters, offered a variety of songs, including pole cats, traditional barbershop classics and show tunes before ending with a joint performance of Irish Blessing.

Even some former members of the choir were invited to come out of the audience and join the finale at Hanger Farm Arts Centre, West Totton.

Special guests at the charity concert was Southampton’s female a cappella octet, ‘Queen Bees’, and support acts were mixed octet ‘Intersection’ and quartets ‘Cabin Crew’ and ‘Southern Gentlemen’.
