May bank holiday (25th-27th) saw the annual Barbershop Convention held this year in Harrogate.
The Chorus objectives, apart from having fun and enjoying the weekend, were to consolidate on last years excellent performance. A contingent of 30 singers travelled to Yorkshire, to perform their 2 chosen songs, Love Me (a barbershop arrangement of the Elvis hit) and a more traditional song, When My Baby Smiles at Me.
From the outset it was clear that the standard of chorus singing has improved dramatically. From such strong competition Ocean Harmony was able to increase their overall score by a modest 0.5%, confirming their major improvement of 2017. This provides a great platform for continuous improvement in the years to come.
One great moment came when Ocean Harmony was awarded a trophy for the highest number of new recruits in a year across all BABS choruses. Thanks goes to Dave Poucher and the Learn to Sing Team, as well as the new members who became chorus members after such an inspiring course.
